Lake Charles, La. – Residents across Louisiana are facing another day of extreme heat as temperatures combine with humidity to push heat indices into the 103–107 degree range this afternoon. Health officials warn that anyone spending prolonged time outdoors could experience dangerous heat stress without proper cooling or hydration.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, the highest risk stretches from Alexandria and Lafayette to Lake Charles and New Iberia, where hourly heat indices are expected to peak above 105° between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. While isolated afternoon thunderstorms may bring brief relief in a few parishes, most of the state will remain dry and hot.

Travelers and outdoor workers are most at risk, with agencies urging residents to drink water frequently and avoid strenuous activity during peak heating hours. Cities including Beaumont, DeRidder, and Opelousas will see heat index values near or above 104° for several consecutive hours, raising the chance of heat exhaustion and heat-related illnesses.

Heat advisories are expected to remain in place through Monday evening, with forecasters monitoring the potential for another round of triple-digit heat indices on Tuesday.
