Shreveport, LA – Residents across Louisiana, Deep East Texas, and South Arkansas should prepare for intense pre-summer heat today, with temperatures climbing into the mid-90s across the region. Along with the soaring temperatures, a low chance of isolated afternoon thunderstorms could bring some brief relief, but also the risk of sudden downpours.

According to the US National Weather Service Shreveport Louisiana, maximum temperatures will increase to slightly above average for this time of year, approaching the mid-90s. The best chance for isolated showers and thunderstorms will occur across South Arkansas and Deep East Texas into Central Louisiana. This pattern indicates that while some areas may see brief rain, the dominant feature will be the widespread heat.

Cities like Shreveport, Louisiana, are expected to hit 95 degrees, while areas such as Texarkana, Arkansas, and Longview, Texas, will likely see highs around 92 to 94 degrees. This heat can quickly lead to heat-related illnesses if precautions are not taken. Residents should limit outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day, typically between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Check on elderly neighbors and those without air conditioning to ensure their safety.

The National Weather Service advises residents to remain vigilant for sudden changes in weather conditions due to the potential for pop-up storms, even with low rain chances. These isolated storms could bring localized heavy rain and lightning. Warnings remain in effect through today, with temperatures expected to stay elevated.
