SHREVEPORT, LA – Residents in Shreveport and surrounding areas should prepare for potential flash flooding as heavy rainfall moves through today, with up to 5 inches expected in some locations. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch through early Sunday for portions of northern Louisiana and nearby areas in East Texas, citing excessive rainfall as a key threat for rivers, creeks, and urban drainage systems.

According to the National Weather Service Shreveport office, today’s storms bring a 70–90% chance of precipitation across Shreveport, Homer, and surrounding areas, with risks highest along flood-prone roadways. Flood-prone areas near Cross Lake and local creeks may experience rapid rises, potentially impacting travel and residential areas. Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads and to monitor weather alerts closely.

After the storm system clears late tonight, Sunday will bring patchy morning fog followed by a mostly cloudy day with highs near 76°F. Calmer conditions are expected to persist into Veterans Day on Monday, with a forecast for clear, sunny skies and a high around 77°F, offering a break from the wet weather.

Looking further into the week, Tuesday and Wednesday promise continued sunshine, with highs in the mid-70s and lows around 54°F. These steady conditions provide an excellent window for outdoor activities and Veterans Day events.

For now, residents are advised to stay indoors during peak rainfall, prepare for possible flash floods, and keep emergency supplies accessible. Motorists should exercise caution on wet roads and heed any flood-related road closures.
