Lake Charles, Louisiana — Heavy rain continues to threaten Louisiana today through Thursday evening, prompting a Flood Watch for multiple parishes. The National Weather Service forecasts up to 6 inches of rainfall in some areas, leading to the risk of flash flooding. Residents should remain cautious as saturated ground and quick rainfall accumulation can overwhelm drainage systems.

According to the NWS, areas south of Highway 190, particularly in Lake Charles, Beaumont, and areas along the Gulf Coast, could see 4-6 inches of additional rain. Meanwhile, regions further north, like Alexandria and Leesville, are expected to receive lighter rainfall, ranging from 0.1-0.5 inches.

Thunderstorms may also exacerbate the situation, with the potential for high rainfall rates and flash flooding in areas like Morgan City and Jeanerette, where training storms could lead to significant water buildup in a short period of time. This will impact roads and low-lying areas, making travel hazardous. Emergency officials urge residents to monitor local conditions and avoid flooded roads.

A marginal risk of severe thunderstorms remains for portions of Louisiana, with wind gusts over 58 mph and hail possible. The threat of tornadoes is low, but local authorities advise staying weather-aware as conditions could rapidly change.
