New Orleans, LA – A flood warning has been extended for the Pearl River near Pearl River, affecting parts of Louisiana and Mississippi. Minor flooding is expected as the river is forecast to rise above flood stage on Tuesday afternoon, continuing to a crest of 16 feet by Friday evening.
According to the National Weather Service, the Pearl River was measured at 13.2 feet as of Monday night, with flood stage set at 14.0 feet. As the river continues to rise, areas such as the River Gardens Subdivision may see flooding, especially in the lower sections of streets. Secondary roads around Honey Island Swamp and areas along the left bank of the river could also experience inundation, threatening about 20 homes. The Bogue Chitto National Wildlife Refuge will be closed to hunting at the 15.5-foot level.
In addition, a separate flood warning has been issued for the Tangipahoa River near Robert. Minor flooding is expected through Thursday morning, with the river forecast to crest at 15.5 feet on Tuesday evening.
