New Orleans, LA – A flood watch remains in effect for southern Louisiana as heavy rainfall continues to threaten the region. The National Weather Service issued a warning for potential flash flooding along and south of the I-10/12 corridor, extending through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, the greatest flood risk includes metro areas such as New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Gulfport. Rainfall rates could reach 2-4 inches per hour, increasing the likelihood of flash floods, especially in low-lying areas. The weather service advises residents to stay weather aware, avoid flooded roads, and never drive around barricades.

The flash flood threat extends along coastal Louisiana and Mississippi, where saturated grounds and poor drainage systems may lead to localized flooding. Authorities have urged residents to prepare for possible road closures and to have multiple evacuation routes ready.

As the storm persists, residents are encouraged to monitor updates from local weather stations and to follow safety precautions to protect themselves from the severe weather impacts. The flood watch remains in effect until Sunday morning.
