New Orleans, LA – Heavy rain is expected to bring flash flooding across New Orleans and surrounding areas Monday night into Tuesday morning, potentially causing hazardous conditions on local roadways. Residents are urged to prepare for localized flooding, especially near low-lying areas and poor drainage zones.

According to the National Weather Service, the New Orleans metro area faces a 90% chance of heavy rain Monday night with potential totals of 4–6 inches. The risk is highest near Lake Pontchartrain, where ponding water may impact traffic along key routes, including I-10 and surrounding neighborhoods. Drivers should avoid flooded roads and exercise caution when traveling during storms.

Monday’s daytime weather will remain partly cloudy with highs in the mid-80s. Rain chances increase sharply after sunset as southeast winds strengthen to 12–16 mph. Thunderstorms are likely to persist into early Tuesday, disrupting morning commutes with reduced visibility and slick roads.

The flash flooding threat diminishes by late Tuesday morning, though minor coastal flooding remains possible during high tides. Elevated tides may affect Louisiana’s Gulf Coast, with warnings for areas near Baton Rouge and the Mississippi border.

Looking ahead, conditions will improve midweek as drier air moves into the region. However, another system could bring rain back by Friday. Residents should monitor updates from local officials and ensure emergency supplies are ready.
