A low ceiling of gray clouds hovers over Shreveport this morning as rain sweeps through the Ark-La-Tex region, drumming against windshields and pooling on local roads. It’s a cool, soaking start to December — and one that could slow travel through much of the day.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, steady showers will persist across northwest Louisiana through the afternoon before tapering tonight. Rain chances remain near 90%, with total rainfall between a quarter and a half inch expected. Winds from the northeast around 10 mph will keep temperatures cool, holding near 46°F before dipping into the upper 30s by Friday morning.

Roadways along I-20, Highway 71, and Loop 3132 may see slick conditions, especially during heavier bursts of rainfall. Visibility will vary with mist and light fog possible through early afternoon. Drivers should allow extra travel time and avoid sudden stops or lane changes on wet pavement.

Friday looks calmer, though clouds will linger and a stray shower may redevelop before skies gradually clear. By Saturday, sunshine returns and highs climb toward 59°F, offering a brief break before another moisture push early next week.

Meteorologists note that as colder air builds across the Plains and Midwest by December 11-17, the southern states may experience sharp temperature swings — an early sign of the coming winter pattern.
