Shreveport, LA – A cold weather advisory is in effect for northwest Louisiana, as frigid temperatures and strong northerly winds will create dangerous wind chills overnight into Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Shreveport, the advisory begins at 9 p.m. Wednesday and lasts until 10 a.m. Thursday. Wind chills will drop to the single digits and lower teens, with some areas experiencing near-zero temperatures.
The coldest wind chills are expected in northern Louisiana and parts of east Texas, including Shreveport, Texarkana, and Monroe. Broken Bow could see wind chills as low as 2°F, while Shreveport is forecast to experience 12°F. The NWS warns that these conditions could lead to frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
Residents are urged to protect themselves, pets, plants, and pipes from the cold. Experts recommend dressing in layers, limiting outdoor exposure, and ensuring proper insulation for homes.
