Lake Charles, LA – Unseasonably warm and wet weather is expected to dominate the Christmas holiday week, impacting holiday plans and road safety. The National Weather Service forecasts highs in the mid-70s with rain and thunderstorms likely through Saturday, particularly along the I-10 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will see increased chances of showers and possible thunderstorms, especially during the evening hours. Travelers should prepare for reduced visibility and slick roads, particularly in central and south-central Louisiana. Rain chances will taper off by midweek, with partly cloudy skies returning on Wednesday evening.

Tuesday brings mostly sunny conditions with highs near 71, but clouds and rain showers will roll in Tuesday night, with a 40% chance of precipitation. On Christmas Day, temperatures will peak at 73°F, but scattered storms could disrupt outdoor plans. Residents are advised to secure holiday decorations and stay updated on potential weather alerts.

The extended forecast for the Lake Charles area suggests continued warm conditions into the weekend, with highs nearing 77°F by Friday. However, a cold front moving in Saturday night is expected to bring drier air and lower temperatures.

Those traveling for the holidays should remain cautious, as the rain could lead to ponding on roads and delays. Residents should monitor local forecasts and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy downpours.
