Lake Charles, LA – Residents of central Louisiana should prepare for severe weather expected Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. The forecast includes risks of tornadoes, damaging winds, large hail, and flash flooding.

An Enhanced Risk, Level 3 out of 5, covers much of the area, with the highest tornado probabilities near the I-10 corridor. Severe storms may produce EF-2+ tornadoes, winds over 58 mph, and hail larger than an inch in diameter. The excessive rainfall threat could also lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas.

According to the National Weather Service, storms are expected to begin Saturday morning and persist into the evening. Residents are urged to monitor local updates, ensure emergency kits are stocked, and secure outdoor items.

“Stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings,” the NWS advised.

Local officials stress the importance of avoiding flooded roads and having a safety plan for severe storms. Emergency responders are on standby for potential impacts.
