Shreveport, La. – Triple-digit heat is gripping northwest Louisiana and isn’t letting up until at least Friday night, with storm chances rising Saturday. Heat index values could push to 110 degrees today, making outdoor work and travel especially dangerous for residents and I-20 commuters.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Friday for much of the Ark-La-Tex, including Shreveport, Bossier City, and surrounding parishes. Officials urge residents to avoid prolonged outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Even short periods outside without shade can trigger heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Friday’s high will reach near 100 degrees under mostly sunny skies, with light winds offering little relief. Saturday brings a shift — humidity stays high, but a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms may offer some cooling in the afternoon. Any storms could produce brief heavy downpours and lightning.

Travelers along I-20 should be prepared for slick roads if storms develop and should secure vehicles and outdoor equipment before showers arrive. The heat combined with sudden rain can also cause pavement to become slick and hazardous.

Relief is limited in the extended outlook. Sunday stays hot near 99 degrees, with storm chances returning midweek. More advisories are possible if heat levels persist into next week.
