Loudoun County, VA – The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) recognized three deputies this week during a unique pinning ceremony for its Underwater Search and Evidence Recovery Team (USERT).

According to the LCSO, the three-day applicant assessment began Monday, October 6, and included classroom instruction, pool and open-water skill evaluations, and interviews. During the training, the team held a ceremony to honor Divers Custodio, Mullis, and Nelson for completing more than a year of service with the dive team.

In a first-of-its-kind tradition, Divers Mullis and Nelson were presented with their official dive pins underwater, at the bottom of the training pool, while wearing their full gear — a symbolic gesture of dedication to the team and its mission.

Diver Custodio received his pin later in the week, surrounded by fellow dive team members, Lieutenant Colonels, and family members.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office invited the public to join in congratulating its newest officially pinned USERT members for their continued service to the community.
