Los Angeles, Calif. – Northwest winds are expected to strengthen across Los Angeles and Ventura counties today, with peak gusts forecast overnight into Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard, winds will increase Wednesday and reach their strongest levels between 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. Thursday, March 5–6.

Forecast maps show peak gusts potentially exceeding 50 mph in parts of the Antelope Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, Interstate 5 corridor and mountainous areas. Coastal and valley locations may also experience elevated gusts.

Forecasters warn of localized downed trees, scattered power outages and hazardous driving conditions, especially in areas prone to crosswinds and blowing debris. High-profile vehicles traveling through mountain passes and along exposed roadways could face difficult conditions.

Hazardous marine conditions are also possible nearshore and around the Channel Islands, with rough seas and strong winds affecting small craft.

The wind event may impact early Thursday commuters across the region, particularly along major corridors such as I-5 and Highway 14.

Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items and remain alert for changing conditions. Additional updates will be issued as needed.
