Los Angeles, California – Powerful southwest winds will sweep across much of Southwest California on Monday, bringing the risk of downed tree limbs, isolated power outages and difficult travel from the Central Coast to Los Angeles County.
A Wind Advisory is in effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. PST Monday for a broad stretch of the region, including San Luis Obispo County, Santa Barbara County, Ventura County and Los Angeles County. That includes downtown Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Malibu, Santa Clarita, Oxnard, Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Lancaster and Palmdale.
Southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected, with widespread gusts between 45 and 55 mph. According to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard, the strongest gusts are likely in the Santa Ynez Mountains, Santa Monica Mountains, Antelope Valley and along exposed coastal areas.
Drivers along U.S. 101, Interstate 5 through the Grapevine, Highway 14 in the Antelope Valley and Pacific Coast Highway should prepare for strong crosswinds, especially high-profile vehicles such as trucks, vans and RVs. Blowing dust is possible in the Antelope Valley, briefly lowering visibility.
Loose outdoor furniture, trash bins and decorations should be secured before Monday morning. Tree limbs may fall, and spotty power outages are possible where gusts peak.
Winds will gradually weaken Monday evening, but breezy conditions could linger into early Tuesday.
