Los Angeles, CA – The calm of early fall takes a hazy turn across Southern California this Sunday as patchy fog begins its slow return to the Los Angeles Basin. The next few mornings will bring gray skies and reduced visibility before sunshine quickly breaks through by late morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard, light winds and cooling nighttime temperatures will allow fog to form across downtown Los Angeles, East L.A., and coastal communities starting late Sunday into Monday. Drivers on I-10, I-5, and the 101 should be cautious during early commutes, especially between 5 and 9 a.m., when visibility could briefly drop below a quarter mile.

Temperatures remain comfortably warm through Tuesday, with highs near 80°F inland and around 70°F near the coast. Each afternoon will feature sunshine, calm winds, and excellent air quality — ideal for outdoor work or fall decorating.

By midweek, the pattern holds steady: fog in the morning, sunshine by noon. Lows hover in the upper 50s, and mild afternoons continue through Thursday and Friday. The weekend looks pleasant, with highs climbing into the mid-70s and skies staying mostly clear.

For now, Southern Californians can expect a classic October rhythm — quiet, foggy mornings giving way to bright afternoons — the kind of coastal calm that signals fall’s soft arrival rather than winter’s rush.
