California — Bright morning sunshine is giving Los Angeles a calm start, but intense early-spring heat is already building across Southern California. Pavement warms quickly today, and by afternoon many neighborhoods will push into the lower 90s. The bigger concern arrives midweek when temperatures surge toward the upper 90s and low 100s, creating the hottest stretch so far this spring.
According to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard, a Heat Advisory begins at 10 a.m. and continues through Tuesday morning, followed by an Extreme Heat Warning from 10 a.m. Tuesday until 8 p.m. Friday. Forecasters expect widespread highs between 96°F and 104°F in valleys and inland communities.
Downtown Los Angeles reaches the lower 90s today, but the heat intensifies Tuesday and Wednesday. Areas including Pasadena, Burbank, Glendale, and the San Fernando Valley may climb close to 100°F. Communities near I-5, US-101, and I-210 corridors will feel the strongest afternoon heat as light winds allow temperatures to spike.
Mountain and foothill regions face an additional concern. Warm overnight temperatures will limit cooling. That means homes without air conditioning may stay uncomfortable late into the night. Cities such as Santa Clarita, Chatsworth, and Woodland Hills could experience several consecutive hot evenings.
Hydration and cooling plans become important quickly. Drink water regularly, wear lightweight clothing, and limit strenuous outdoor activity during the afternoon peak heat. Officials also encourage residents to check on elderly neighbors and those without reliable cooling.
Meteorologists say this unusual March heat is tied to a strengthening high-pressure ridge over the western United States. Temperatures may challenge daily records across Southern California through midweek.
The heat warning remains active through Friday evening, and additional advisories could follow if the hot pattern lingers.
