Los Angeles, CA – A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for much of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties from Thursday afternoon through late Thursday night, with heavy rain expected to trigger dangerous flooding and debris flows.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Los Angeles/Oxnard, excessive rainfall poses a significant risk, particularly in and near burn scars from past wildfires, including the Eaton, Palisades/Franklin, and Bridge burn scars. The heaviest rainfall is forecast during the afternoon and evening hours Thursday, increasing the threat of life-threatening flash floods and mudslides.
Residents in Santa Clarita Valley, San Fernando Valley, Malibu, Santa Monica, Pasadena, Burbank, and surrounding areas should prepare for possible road closures, property damage, and hazardous travel conditions. The storm system could bring rapidly rising water levels in creeks and urban areas, increasing the potential for sudden evacuations.
In Santa Barbara County, the watch begins Thursday morning, specifically impacting the Santa Ynez Valley and Santa Barbara County Interior Mountains. The Lake burn scar area is at high risk for debris flows.
Officials urge residents to monitor weather updates, avoid flood-prone areas, and follow all emergency orders. More information can be found at weather.gov/safety/flood.
