Lookout Pass, ID – Snow-covered lanes along Interstate 90 at Lookout Pass could slow traffic immediately this morning, with up to 3 additional inches falling before 10 a.m. Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the Central Panhandle Mountains, including Lookout Pass, until 10 a.m. Snow is expected above 4,000 feet, with 1 to 3 inches of additional accumulation possible. Storm totals are running between 2 and 5 inches.

The highest impacts are along I-90 at the Idaho-Montana state line, where elevation and colder temperatures are allowing snow to stick to pavement. Slippery road conditions are likely through mid-morning, especially on bridges, shaded stretches and higher exposed curves near the summit.

Idaho Transportation Department crews are monitoring conditions, but drivers should expect compact snow and reduced traction until snowfall tapers. Visibility may briefly drop during heavier bursts.

Motorists traveling between Wallace and Mullan should reduce speeds, increase following distance and avoid sudden braking. Carrying chains and emergency supplies is recommended for mountain travel. For updated road conditions, drivers can call 511 before departure.

Conditions are expected to improve after 10 a.m. as snowfall diminishes, but slick spots may linger into the late morning hours.
