Nassau County, NY – Drivers in Nassau County should expect major traffic delays today, Saturday, September 20, 2025, as multiple roads remain closed for the 2025 Ironman event.
According to New York State Police, closures began at 5 a.m. and are expected to last until approximately 3 p.m. The entire Wantagh State Parkway is closed between the Northern State Parkway and the Ocean Parkway. In addition, the Bay Parkway is closed in both directions between the Meadowbrook State Parkway and the Wantagh State Parkway.
Authorities also confirmed that the Green Island Fishing Pier and Jones Beach Field 10 Fishing Pier are closed to the public during the event.
The closures will affect travel throughout Long Island, particularly for those heading toward Jones Beach State Park and surrounding recreation areas. Motorists are advised to plan ahead, seek alternate routes, and expect delays throughout the day.
This year’s Ironman is expected to bring thousands of participants and spectators, making traffic congestion likely in the surrounding communities. Local police will be stationed along closure points to assist drivers and manage traffic flow.
Travelers are encouraged to check navigation apps and local updates before heading out.
