New York, New York – A cold start is underway across the Tri-State area this morning, with temperatures hovering in the mid-30s and frost actively forming in colder inland spots before 9 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, the Frost Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Sunday, with temperatures dipping into the mid-30s across parts of southern Connecticut, northern New Jersey, and southeastern New York.

Impacted areas include Southern Middlesex and Southern New London counties in Connecticut; Western Bergen and Western Passaic counties in New Jersey; and Rockland, Northern Westchester, and eastern portions of Suffolk County in New York, including parts of Long Island.

The coldest conditions are occurring in suburban and inland areas where winds are light and skies remain mostly clear, allowing temperatures to drop enough for frost to develop on exposed surfaces. Urban centers may stay slightly warmer but are still seeing chilly conditions.

Sensitive vegetation, including early spring plants and gardens, remains at risk of damage if left uncovered. Residents are urged to take immediate steps this morning to protect plants, especially in low-lying and sheltered areas.

Temperatures will rise quickly after 9 a.m. with increasing sunshine, ending the frost threat. However, more cool mornings are possible this spring, and additional advisories could be issued if similar conditions return.
