Lombard, Ill. — To encourage kids to practice safe habits for riding bikes, scooters and skateboards, the Lombard Police Department launched the Kids Summer Safety Challenge. When kids are spotted practicing safe riding habits, they are rewarded with a coin for a free mini-Blizzard at the Lombard Dairy Queen.
The program will run through the end of the summer while supplies last. Officers will be looking for kids wearing helmets, looking both ways before crossing an intersection, using hand signals when turning and walking their wheels in crowded areas. Kids who overall ride in a safe, alert and respectful manner will be rewarded with a mini-Blizzard coin. The program follows Lombard’s rules for bike and scooter safety.
“Programs like this help us connect with kids and reinforce simple habits that make a big difference in staying safe,” said Police Chief Joe Grage in the press release about the Kids Summer Safety Challenge. “It’s about encouraging good decisions at an early age and building a culture of safety in our community.”
