Lockport, NY – Commuters along North Transit Street woke Sunday to reports of a vehicle pursuit that ended in a crash and a DWI arrest in the City of Lockport just after 3:30 a.m.
According to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy McFall observed a Mitsubishi sedan operating northbound on South Transit Street with an inoperable headlight around 3:35 a.m. When the deputy attempted to follow the vehicle, the driver allegedly fled at a high rate of speed, prompting a brief pursuit through multiple streets in Lockport.
Deputies said the pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed into St. Patrick’s Cemetery on Glenwood Avenue. The driver was taken into custody without further incident and identified as Jeffrey A. Killion II, an 18-year-old male from the Town of Wilson.
According to investigators, Killion is charged with Driving While Intoxicated (Misdemeanor), Operating a Motor Vehicle above .08% BAC (Misdemeanor), Unlawful Fleeing an Officer in a Motor Vehicle (Misdemeanor), Reckless Driving (Misdemeanor), Resisting Arrest (Misdemeanor) and Obstruction of Governmental Administration 2nd (Misdemeanor). Officials said he is also facing several additional vehicle and traffic violations.
Due to New York’s Bail Reform Legislation, deputies said Killion was released on appearance tickets returnable to Lockport City Court. His vehicle was impounded following the crash.
Residents reported seeing emergency lights in the area early Sunday as crews secured the scene.
