Landscape Rock allegedly Becomes Weapon in Violent Joliet Street Fight

JOLIET, IL – A late-night street fight took a dangerous turn after a landscape rock allegedly became a weapon.

According to Joliet Police, it happened at 1:18 a.m. Saturday in the 800 block of North Broadway Street, when Jose Velazquez-Garcia, 33, allegedly clubbed another man in the head with a heavy object during the altercation.

Responding to reports of a fight, officers arrived at an alley to find Velazquez-Garcia and another man engaged in a physical altercation. It is suspected by police Velazquez-Garcia used a landscape rock to allegedly strike the victim in the head, causing significant injuries that required immediate medical attention.

A Joliet Fire Department ambulance quickly transported the victim to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center for treatment. Meanwhile, Velazquez-Garcia was apprehended without incident and subsequently booked into Will County’s Jail on charges of aggravated battery.

Velazquez-Garcia spent eight hours in custody before being released after posting 10 percent of his $10,000 bail, exiting the Jail before noon. 

The motive behind the fight remains unclear, Velazquez-Garcia is scheduled to appear in court to face the aggravated battery charges.
