Lake County, Indiana – A Blue Bird Party Bus lost control Thursday morning and overturned north of the Kankakee River.

The incident unfolded near the Lowell exit on I-65, just south of the 236 mile-marker.

According to Indiana State Police, troopers swiftly responded to the scene, just after 9 a.m. Preliminary investigations showed the bus was traveling northbound at the time when the driver encountered unexpectedly slowed traffic in the same lanes. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the driver allegedly veered onto the right shoulder, but unfortunately, overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle.

The bus careened into a semi-truck and crashed through approximately 75 feet of guardrail before coming to a rest on its side. Miraculously, all occupants of the bus, who were later revealed to be aboard a party bus displaying the intriguing message “for a good time call…” on its rear, declined medical treatment at the scene.

The incident prompted intermittent closures on the roadway while crews worked to remove the overturned bus. After a significant amount of debris was cleared from the scene, the roadway opened some hours later.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances leading up to the crash.
