Waukegan, IL – A North Chicago man has been arrested in connection with the alleged February kidnapping of a Wisconsin woman following an encounter at a Waukegan nightclub, marking a significant breakthrough in the case, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office announced. In the early hours of February 25, 2024, sheriff’s dispatchers received an urgent 911 call, launching an immediate investigation into the distressing incident.
According to the sheriff’s report, the victim, a 22-year-old woman from Whitewater, Wisconsin, and her friend were leaving the nightclub when Jonatan Luna-Carrasco, 28, flagged them down under the guise of helping with a supposed flat tire. Luna-Carrasco then convinced the victim to wait in his vehicle for warmth, subsequently allegedly driving away with her against her will. The victim managed to escape in Gurnee and found refuge at a nearby residence, where the police were called.
Sheriff’s detectives harnessed Flock Camera technology to locate a vehicle matching the suspect’s description, leading to Luna-Carrasco’s arrest on March 30. Sheriff John D. Idleburg commended the integrated efforts of the sheriff’s telecommunicators, responding deputies, and detectives for their diligent work and the pivotal role of technology in apprehending the suspect.
Luna-Carrasco remains in custody, awaiting further legal proceedings, as investigators probe potential additional victims. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with information related to Luna-Carrasco’s activities to come forward, as they continue their commitment to public safety and justice.
