LAKE COUNTY, IN – A tragic accident occurred on Saturday at the construction zone of I-80 in Lake County resulting in one death.
According to preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Lawrence McFarrin, a blue 2019 Kia was speeding through the construction zone when it crashed into a crash attenuator, causing the vehicle to go airborne and fly into the lanes of travel. The Kia was hit by a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado on the driver’s side door area, resulting in the death of the Kia’s driver. The driver of the Chevrolet was fortunately unharmed.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office and the Gary Fire Department arrived at the scene to assist. The identity of the driver is yet to be revealed after the family has been notified.
