Intensive Manhunt Launched as Suspect Deliberately Sets Fire at Lake County Jail

CROWN POINT, IN – An intense manhunt is currently underway as authorities tirelessly search for a suspect who allegedly ignited a deliberate fire at the Lake County Jail.

According to authorities it began shortly before noon when a black male forcefully entered the jail’s lobby, brandishing a plastic jug filled with a combustible substance. The man then proceeded to allegedly douse the area with the flammable liquid before igniting it and swiftly fleeing the scene.

Law enforcement agencies, led by the dedicated team at the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to apprehend the suspect. The individual is described as a black male wearing a dark-colored t-shirt, jeans, and a baseball cap adorned with a logo on the front.

The audacious act of arson has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting a swift response from jail staff and assistance from the Crown Point and Merrillville Fire Departments. Fortunately, their quick actions resulted in the fire being promptly extinguished, preventing any injuries or further damage to the facility.
