Pembroke School District Names New Principal at Lorenzo R. Smith School

HOPKINS PARK, Illinois – Lorenzo R. Smith School, part of the Pembroke Community Consolidated School District #259, is gearing up for a transformative year with the arrival of their new Principal, Mr. Steven J. Chambers VI. With an impressive 23 years of experience in education.

The District announced the hire Thursday.

Starting his career in Rich Township High School District #227, Chambers has held various roles, including teacher, administrator, and most recently, Principal of Lorenzo R. Smith Elementary. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Governors State University and a Master of Arts degree in School Leadership from Concordia University Chicago.

Excitement abounds within the Pembroke Community Consolidated School District #259 leadership team, as they believe Chambers’ expertise and vision will greatly benefit Lorenzo R. Smith School. Dr. Nicole Terrell-Smith, Superintendent of Pembroke Community Consolidated School District #259, said, “Mr. Chambers’ leadership style and character make him a great fit for the students and families we serve. His expertise will be a tremendous asset as we grow our program and respond to the needs of our children.”

Looking ahead, Chambers expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming academic year. “We have exciting plans for standards-based instruction, new teacher evaluations, and additional resources to enhance our science curriculum. Lorenzo R. Smith Elementary is the place to be,” he said. “I believe in upholding the school’s traditions while adapting to the demands of the 21st century.”

Registration for Lorenzo R. Smith School is currently open, with a Back to School Bash scheduled for August 5th from noon to 4:00 pm. The event, held at 4120 W.
