MOKENA, Ill. – Mokena’s police officers are set to don a new and essential piece of equipment. In response to a state law passed in July 2021, mandating municipalities with populations under 50,000 to implement body-worn cameras by 2025, the Mokena Police Department is proactively transitioning its officers to the advanced Axon Body 3 body-worn cameras.

The new cameras offer a multitude of features tailored for modern policing. Among them, the camera’s ability to deliver enhanced low-light performance stands out, minimized motion blur ensures high detail in recordings, and four microphones and specialized algorithms, the device captures clear audio, invaluable for evidentiary purposes.

The cameras’ LTE connection also allows for real-time capabilities, such as live streaming, giving officers an added layer of support during pivotal situations.

As the Mokena Police Department aligns with state regulations, this proactive move emphasizes their commitment to transparency, community safety, and leveraging technology to enhance their service to residents.
