Kankakee City Police Arrest Driver for Battery to a Police Officer

KANKAKEE, Ill. – A traffic stop early this morning led to the use of a taser by the Kankakee City Police to subdue a driver who allegedly struck an officer.

Robert D. Harris III, 33, a resident of Kankakee, was pulled over for a traffic violation at around 3:30 a.m. According to reports, officers discovered that Harris had an outstanding warrant during a routine check. 

When officers attempted to take him into custody, Harris allegedly struck one of the arresting officers, prompting the use of a taser to subdue him.

Harris has been charged by the Kankakee City Police Department with resisting arrest, aggravated battery to a police officer, and the outstanding warrant. He is currently being held at the Jerome Combs Detention Center and awaiting a bond hearing.

This incident highlights the risks and challenges that police officers face every day while performing their duties. Assaults on law enforcement officers have been on the rise in recent years, and the use of a taser in this situation underscores the importance of proper training and equipment for law enforcement officers.
