INDIANAPOLIS, IN – A mental health counselor was stabbed multiple times in the neck by an inmate at a private run correctional facility early Friday.
According to Indiana State Police, the incident occurred during a group session with eight male offenders at 9:40 a.m this morning. It is unclear at this time why the inmate allegedly attacked the counselor with a pointed metal object.
Several other inmates tried to intervene, but one of them was also injured in the process. Both the counselor and the inmate were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Indiana State Police are investigating the incident, which will be submitted to the prosecutor’s office once the investigation is complete.
The correctional facility where the incident occurred is a medium-security prison run by a private company in New Castle, Indiana, with a capacity of over 3,000 inmates.
