ELMHURST, IL – The Elmhurst Police Department responded to a report from school administration at Visitation Elementary School on Wednesday morning, involving a student who brought three rounds of ammunition to school.
The incident prompted the school to be placed on a soft lockdown while authorities investigated. However, a search of the school premises did not find any weapons, and the student involved was removed from class and searched. The three rounds of ammunition were recovered, and no additional concerning items were found.
According to the investigation, the student brought the ammunition to school to show other students, and there was no weapon involved. Another student told their parent, who subsequently contacted school administrators.
The Elmhurst Police Department will continue to investigate the incident, but as the student involved is a juvenile, no further information about them will be released. However, the police department will maintain an additional presence during school arrival and dismissal times to reassure students and parents.
The Elmhurst Police Department praised the student who witnessed the situation and reported it to a parent, thereby helping to keep the school safe. The department urged everyone to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity, saying “If you see something, say something.”
The incident ended without any injuries, and normal school operations have resumed.
