Mount Morris, NY – A Mt. Morris man is facing multiple felony charges following an armed robbery reported at a local business over the weekend, according to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty, deputies responded at approximately 8:00 p.m. Saturday, January 3, to a business on Chapel Street in the Village of Mt. Morris after receiving a report of a robbery that had just occurred. Authorities said the suspect fled the scene on foot before deputies arrived.

Investigators allege that 44-year-old Thomas Albanese, of Mt. Morris, entered the business, approached the counter, and demanded cash from the register while brandishing a firearm.

Following an investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff’s Investigator Ross Gerace arrested Albanese on Tuesday, January 6. He was charged with Robbery in the First Degree, Criminal Use of a Firearm in the First Degree, Burglary in the Second Degree, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Menacing in the Second Degree, Evading Arrest by Concealment of Identity, Petit Larceny, and violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.

Albanese was transported to the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention. He was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part (LC-CAP) at the jail before Town of York Justice Porter.

The Livingston County District Attorney’s Office requested bail be set at $50,000 cash or $150,000 bond. The judge instead ordered Albanese remanded to the custody of the Livingston County Sheriff in lieu of $40,000 cash bail or a $100,000 bond.

The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office represented Albanese during arraignment, while the District Attorney’s Office appeared on behalf of the People.

The investigation involved assistance from the Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division, Forensic Identification Unit, and the Mt. Morris Police Department.
