Avon, NY – A Genesee County man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges following a reported domestic incident at a business in the Town of Avon earlier this month, according to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty, deputies responded to the business around 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, after a domestic incident was reported. Investigators allege that a physical altercation occurred inside a vehicle between a 43-year-old man and a female victim, during which the vehicle was also damaged.

Authorities say the alleged incident occurred while an active order of protection was in place, protecting the female involved. Because of that order, the alleged actions elevated the case to felony-level charges.

Following the investigation, Steven Gillis, 43, of LeRoy in Genesee County, was arrested on Wednesday, December 11, by Livingston County Sheriff’s Deputy Evan Wolfanger.

Gillis was charged with felony Criminal Contempt in the First Degree, felony Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, misdemeanor Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree, and Harassment in the Second Degree. All charges are allegations, and Gillis is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

After his arrest, Gillis was transported to the Livingston County Jail and processed by Central Booking Deputies. He was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part (LC-CAP) before Town of Leicester Justice Durbin.

The Livingston County District Attorney’s Office requested bail be set at $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond. The judge remanded Gillis to the custody of the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office under those bail conditions.

The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office represented Gillis during the arraignment, while the District Attorney’s Office appeared on behalf of the People.
