Livingston County, NY – A Monroe County man was arrested on felony charges after a traffic stop along Interstate 390 earlier this week, according to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reported that the incident happened around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17, when Deputy Jerry Pilkenton stopped a vehicle in the Town of Avon for a traffic violation.

According to deputies, the driver was identified as 56-year-old Sammie Griner of Rochester. Investigators say Griner was operating with a suspended New York State driver’s license and allegedly found to be in possession of metal knuckles.

Deputies charged Griner with felony criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, misdemeanor aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree, and multiple traffic law violations.

Griner was taken to the Livingston County Jail and arraigned before Town of Avon Justice Hoffman. The court remanded him to custody without the possibility of bail, citing two or more prior felony convictions.

The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office represented Griner during the arraignment, while the Livingston County District Attorney’s Office appeared on behalf of the prosecution.

Authorities say Griner remains in custody pending further court proceedings.
