Mount Morris, NY – Two Mount Morris residents are facing felony burglary charges after an early-morning business break-in that prompted a multi-division investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office this week.

According to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a burglar alarm at a business on Chapel Street in the Village of Mount Morris at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 23. Upon arrival, deputies confirmed forced entry into the building and determined that items had been stolen.

Investigators identified two suspects allegedly responsible for the burglary following the initial response and subsequent investigation, officials said.

On Wednesday, December 24, Sheriff’s Investigator Michael Wade arrested 51-year-old Ulises Valentin-Surillo and 34-year-old Ashley Zigenfus. Both are Mount Morris residents, according to authorities.

The individuals were each charged with felony burglary in the third degree and felony criminal mischief in the second degree. Additional charges include misdemeanor petit larceny, misdemeanor criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, and misdemeanor possession of burglar’s tools, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Valentin-Surillo and Zigenfus were transported to the Livingston County Jail for arrest processing and held for pre-arraignment detention. Both were later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part (LC-CAP) at the jail before Leicester Town Justice Scofield.

The judge released both individuals on their own recognizance. Officials stated the charges do not qualify for bail under the New York State Bail Reform Act.

The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office represented both defendants at arraignment, while the Livingston County District Attorney’s Office appeared on behalf of the People.

The investigation involved members of the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, Patrol Division, and Forensic Identification Unit. The case remains pending in court.
