Livingston County, Michigan — A Level 1 Travel Advisory has been issued for all of Livingston County due to snow-covered road conditions.
According to Livingston County Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty, the advisory was issued at 6:30 a.m. Thursday and remains in effect until 1 p.m. Thursday. Officials cited snow-covered roads across the county as the reason for the advisory.
A Level 1 Travel Advisory is the lowest level of roadway alert and does not mean roads are closed. It indicates that hazardous driving conditions may exist and that motorists should use caution. The sheriff’s office said recent conditions have already contributed to vehicle crashes, slide-offs, and disabled vehicles, particularly involving drivers unprepared for winter travel.
Authorities are urging drivers to reduce speeds, increase following distance, and yield to snowplows as crews work to clear and salt roadways. Motorists are also reminded to ensure their vehicles are properly equipped for winter conditions.
The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that conditions can change quickly during winter weather and that even a Level 1 advisory signals an increased risk on area roads.
No higher-level travel restrictions were announced as of Thursday morning, but officials said drivers should continue to monitor conditions and exercise judgment when deciding whether to travel.
This advisory may be especially relevant for morning commuters, school transportation, and delivery drivers, as untreated roads may remain slick through midday.
