Pontiac, Ill. – Drivers in western Livingston County should use caution Saturday afternoon as lingering floodwaters remain on roads and low-lying areas after heavy thunderstorms drenched the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, a Flood Advisory is in place until 4:45 p.m. as 1 to 3 inches of rain have already fallen. Streams and creeks near Flanagan may rise out of their banks, and some rural roads are expected to remain covered in water.
The steadiest rainfall has ended, but slow drainage means standing water will linger through the afternoon. Local officials are urging residents not to drive through flooded streets, as even shallow water can cause vehicles to stall or wash off the roadway.
Flooding is expected to remain minor, but pockets of high water could disrupt travel in the advisory area until conditions improve later this evening.
Warnings could be extended if additional rainfall develops, but for now the advisory is set to expire before 5 p.m.
