Livingston County, IL – The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office is urging drivers to buckle up and stay sober ahead of the busy Thanksgiving travel period.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies will join the Illinois State Police and local departments in the statewide “Click It or Ticket” and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaigns running Nov. 21 through Dec. 2. Officers will focus on seat belt enforcement, speeding, distracted driving, and impairment from alcohol or drugs, including cannabis.

“Thanksgiving brings more vehicles, longer trips and more festivities,” said Sheriff Ryan Bohm. “Seat belts remain one of the simplest and most effective ways to save your life in a crash. We’re asking every driver and passenger to buckle up, every trip, every time — and to plan a sober ride before the celebrations begin.”

Residents are encouraged to plan ahead by choosing a sober driver, using public transit or rideshares, and avoiding driving after consuming alcohol or cannabis. Officials also urge motorists to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911.

The enforcement effort is supported by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation as part of Illinois’ statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Click It or Ticket,” and “It’s Not a Game” campaigns.
