Livingston County, IL – A coordinated holiday traffic enforcement campaign led to dozens of citations and increased seat belt use across Livingston County during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
According to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, deputies teamed up with the Illinois Department of Transportation and law enforcement agencies statewide between Thursday, December 12, and Sunday, January 5, as part of the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High. Get a DUI.” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns.
Officials say enforcement focused on removing impaired drivers from the road and ensuring motorists were properly buckled up, whether traveling on rural roads, small-town streets, suburban arterials, or city expressways.
The results included 33 citations for seat belt violations, along with 11 citations for speeding, 15 for distracted driving, and additional traffic offenses logged during the campaign period.
“We can’t stress it enough: impaired driving is a deadly gamble, no matter where you live,” Sheriff Ryan Bohm said in a statement. “Whether it’s alcohol, cannabis or any other drug, driving impaired is illegal, irresponsible and puts lives at risk — yours, your passengers’ and everyone else’s on the road.”
Law enforcement officials say the heightened patrols are designed to reduce crashes and fatalities, particularly during holiday travel when traffic volume and impaired driving risks increase.
The holiday enforcement campaign was administered by IDOT and funded through federal highway safety dollars managed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It is part of Illinois’ ongoing “It’s Not a Game” statewide traffic safety media and enforcement initiative.
Authorities remind drivers that seat belt enforcement and impaired driving patrols continue year-round, not just during holidays.
