Little Rock, Ark. – Heavy rain and thunderstorms will spread across Arkansas starting Monday and continue through late Wednesday, raising concerns about flash flooding across the state. Forecasters warn that several rounds of storms could bring up to 4 inches of rain in parts of the Ozarks and River Valley, with central and southern areas also at risk of flooding.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, the heaviest rain is expected Tuesday into Wednesday. Storms may also produce cloud-to-ground lightning, brief gusty winds, and isolated hail. Fayetteville, Fort Smith, and Russellville are among the hardest-hit zones, with 3 to 4 inches of rain projected, while Little Rock and Pine Bluff could see 2 to 3 inches. Lighter but still steady totals are likely in Texarkana, El Dorado, and Monticello.
Officials warn saturated ground could quickly lead to flash flooding on rural roads, low-water crossings, and urban streets. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded areas, and residents should secure outdoor items and prepare for power outages in stronger storms.
More showers are likely through midweek, with additional alerts possible if rainfall totals rise.
