Little Rock, AR – Severe storms are expected to move into Arkansas by Friday evening, bringing the threat of damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes that could impact travel and power across the state overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, storms will develop in western Arkansas late Friday before tracking east-southeast through the evening and overnight hours. The strongest storms are expected across northern and western parts of the state, where large hail and damaging wind gusts up to 80 mph are possible.
Cities including Fort Smith, Fayetteville, and Harrison may see storms first, with impacts spreading toward Little Rock, Conway, and Pine Bluff later Friday night. A few tornadoes cannot be ruled out, especially with any isolated stronger cells ahead of the main line.
Storms are expected to move quickly, reducing reaction time for warnings. Residents should have multiple ways to receive alerts and be ready to take shelter if warnings are issued.
While rainfall may provide limited drought relief, officials note it will not significantly improve ongoing dry conditions. Severe weather risks will continue through Friday night, with additional alerts likely as storms develop.
