Little Rock, Ark. – Drivers, outdoor workers, and anyone spending time outside in Arkansas this weekend face dangerous heat, with temperatures pushing near 100 degrees and heat index values reaching as high as 110°F through Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, a heat advisory remains in effect as mostly sunny skies and calm winds will keep conditions oppressive. The worst of the heat is expected Saturday through Tuesday, with highs from 99 to 100°F and nighttime lows only dipping into the mid-70s.

The stretch of extreme heat poses risks for heat exhaustion and dehydration. Little Rock, North Little Rock, and surrounding Pulaski County are urged to limit strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours, drink plenty of water, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets. Emergency officials warn that vehicles can become life-threateningly hot within minutes.

A change arrives by Wednesday, when scattered thunderstorms and slightly cooler highs in the mid-90s may break the heat. Rain chances linger into Thursday and Friday, though temperatures will remain warm.

Heat advisories are expected to stay in place until at least Tuesday, with updates possible if storms develop sooner.
