Little Rock, Ark. – Sweltering heat and oppressive humidity will blanket much of Arkansas today, with heat index values soaring as high as 108° and prompting a Heat Advisory for millions.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, the advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday across portions of central, eastern, north-central, southeast, and southwest Arkansas. Actual temperatures will reach the low to mid-90s, but the humidity will make it feel significantly hotter — especially during the afternoon hours.

Cities including Little Rock, Pine Bluff, Jonesboro, Conway, and El Dorado are all within the advisory zone. Forecasters warn that prolonged exposure or strenuous activity could result in heat-related illness. Residents are urged to stay indoors during peak heat, drink plenty of water, and avoid outdoor labor without proper cooling breaks. Loose, light-colored clothing is also recommended.

The oppressive pattern is expected to worsen into the weekend. Saturday may be the hottest and most humid day yet, with excessive heat lingering into the middle of next week. NWS warns that heat index values could remain above 105° through Wednesday.

⚠️ More advisories may be issued over the weekend as high pressure builds.
