LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A dangerous stretch of heat grips much of Arkansas Wednesday, with the National Weather Service warning that heat index values could climb as high as 109 degrees along and south of the I-40 corridor. The advisory covers Little Rock, Pine Bluff, Hot Springs, and Texarkana, where afternoon conditions may quickly become hazardous.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, a heat advisory remains in effect across southern and central Arkansas through Wednesday evening, while portions of the southeast are under an excessive heat warning. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak heat, and use air conditioning if available.

The heat follows rounds of storms that dropped up to three inches of rain in spots Tuesday, briefly easing conditions before the sun returned. Forecasters say a cold front will push through late Wednesday into Thursday, bringing a noticeable change. Highs will shift closer to seasonal averages in the 80s this weekend, with an even cooler pattern expected early next week.

By Monday and Tuesday, Arkansas could see highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s and 60s, a stark contrast from today’s oppressive heat. Additional advisories could be issued if temperatures climb again later this month.
