Little Rock, Arkansas – Dangerous heat and the threat of evening storms are converging across Arkansas today, with heat index values expected to reach or exceed 105° in central and eastern regions.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, a heat advisory is in effect through Monday evening for portions of central and eastern Arkansas, including Pine Bluff, Stuttgart, and Brinkley. Combined heat and humidity will push index readings into the triple digits, especially during the afternoon hours, while isolated showers and thunderstorms may develop statewide later in the day.
Cities like Conway, Searcy, and Russellville could see heat index readings above 100° as early as noon, with the worst conditions expected between 2 and 6 p.m. Meanwhile, rainfall totals between 0.10″ and 1.00″ are possible across western and northern counties, including Fort Smith and Harrison, as a weak disturbance moves through the area.
Residents are urged to avoid outdoor activity during peak heat hours, stay hydrated, and ensure pets and vulnerable individuals have access to cooling. Roads may become slick where storms develop quickly this evening.
Hot and muggy weather is expected to persist through Friday, with additional advisories possible later this week.
