Little Rock, AR – A surge of colder and drier air is moving into Arkansas Wednesday, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures across much of the state by nightfall, according to the National Weather Service in Little Rock.

Forecasters say overnight lows will dip into the low- to mid-40s, with some northern areas near 40°F by midnight. The coldest temperatures are expected just before daybreak Thursday as the front continues to funnel cool, dry air into the region.

Daytime highs Wednesday will remain well below seasonal averages, reaching only the mid-50s in central and eastern Arkansas and the upper 40s to low 50s in the northwest.

The NWS says the air mass will remain dry through the end of the week, setting up several clear, chilly nights and cool afternoons — a classic fall pattern for the state.

Residents are advised to prepare for cooler mornings and consider protecting sensitive outdoor plants from the early chill.
