LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The air feels thick and still this morning across central Arkansas, with a warm haze rising over the Arkansas River. It’s the kind of early November calm that never lasts long—and by Sunday, the state’s first real shot of winterlike air will bring a sharp temperature plunge and potential frost.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, Friday’s mild pattern will linger through Saturday with highs in the mid-70s and plenty of sunshine. But by Sunday, gusty northwest winds will drive a powerful Arctic front southward, dropping temperatures nearly 30 degrees in just 36 hours. The front won’t bring rain, but it will usher in a dry, biting chill.

Sunday’s highs will top out near 54°F, and by nightfall, lows could dip below freezing across Pulaski, Faulkner, and Saline counties. Forecasters expect widespread frost or a light freeze early Monday morning, signaling the official end of the growing season for much of central Arkansas.

Residents are urged to protect sensitive plants, disconnect outdoor hoses, and bring pets indoors. Drivers should also prepare for brisk winds Sunday afternoon along I-40 and I-30, where gusts may reach 25 mph as cold air sweeps in.

Veterans Day looks crisp and bright, with highs in the upper 50s under clear blue skies—perfect for parades and outdoor ceremonies. Beyond that, a warming trend returns midweek, but forecasters warn another cold surge could follow before Thanksgiving.

For now, this weekend marks Arkansas’s first big turn toward winter—a reminder that mild fall days are quickly running out.
