Little Rock, AR – Dense fog is creating hazardous travel conditions across parts of central, southern, and southwest Arkansas early Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect through 10 a.m. for portions of Calhoun, Clark, Dallas, Hot Spring, Ouachita, and Saline counties. Visibility in affected areas may drop to one-quarter mile or less, making driving dangerous.

Forecasters report that the fog is thickest during the early morning hours and may vary significantly over short distances. Motorists may suddenly encounter sharply reduced visibility, especially along rural roads, low-lying areas, and near rivers and lakes.

The National Weather Service urges drivers to slow down, increase following distance, and use low-beam headlights when traveling in fog. High-beam headlights can reflect off fog droplets and further reduce visibility. Officials also recommend considering delaying travel until conditions improve later this morning.

Even after sunrise, fog may linger in some areas longer than expected, particularly where winds remain light. Conditions are expected to gradually improve by late morning as temperatures warm and fog dissipates.

Emergency officials remind drivers that fog-related crashes often occur when vehicles are traveling too fast for conditions or when drivers follow too closely. Extra caution is advised near intersections, school zones, and construction areas.

Residents should monitor local forecasts and road conditions before heading out. Those traveling for work, school, or deliveries should allow extra time to reach their destination safely.

Additional advisories may be extended or adjusted if fog persists beyond the expected timeframe. Updates will be issued as conditions change.
